Unfortunately, just before the start of the 2022 MXGP World Championship, German rider, Henry Jacobi has had to under the knife to repair the scaphoid he broke at Arco di Trento last year.
The injury wasn’t healing like it should have been so surgery was the only option and it means he is likely to miss at least the opening round of the MXGP World Championship. However, having spoken to Joel Roelants (JM Honda’s team trainer), he thinks there’s a chance Jacobi could still race this weekend if he can battle through the pain.
With Ivo Monticelli also in recovery it would leave the JM Honda team without an MXGP rider – it remains to be seen if they would draft in a fill in rider for the first round this weekend. The team will be present in the MX2 World Championship with Petr Polak.
“This is not what we wanna post 5 days before our first GP but I broke my scaphoid (kahnbein) at Arco last October and since then it didn’t heal like it should…obviously now the pain got worse and I had surgery today where Dr. de Schrijver fixed the bone with a screw. We’ll see how long it’ll take me to get back to racing. Probably sooner than later. Thanks to all the doctors and nurses today”, Jacobi stated on social media.
