Race results: MXGP World Championship RD1 – Prado wins Argentina

In the opening race, it was Maxime Renaux who held the early lead but Jorge Prado attacked on the opening lap.

He made an early pass on Renaux and then started to pull away at the front. Febvre had a strange first lap dropping down to fifth but then Tim Gajser crashhed whilst he was battling in the top five.

Febvre started to make passes but by the time he got into second, Prado was gone as he rode a superb race at the front.

Pauls Jonass rode superb passing Renaux, who isn’t 100% yet for third. Gajser was able to get back to fifth after his crash but would have wanted another lap as he was all over Renaux at the finish line.

Jeffrey Herlings was sat in fifth early but then had a crash dropping him outside the top ten – he was able to recover to eighth.

Ben Watson had a really good race to finish tenth on his Beta.

The second race saw Gajser hold the early lead with Prado quickly passing the impressive Jonass to get himself into second. Febvre also got himself into third which saw the front three break away from the rest of the field.

Gajser was comfortable at the front and bounced back to take an impressive victory in race two. Despite some pressure behind from Febvre, Prado was able to break away from the French rider to take second and bring home the overall win.

Jonass just missed out on the podium but rode great to finish fourth. Seewer was solid to bring home fifth on his KRT debut.

Herlings was buried down in fourteenth on the opening lap and got as high as sixth but Renaux, who actually got the holeshot crashed on the opening lap was able to pass Herlings to finish sixth.

MXGP rookie, Kevin Horgmo got a good start and was sixth for the first half of the race before coming home in tenth. Ben Watson had a crash when running inside the top tenth but recovered to twelfth.
