Liam Everts couldn’t have timed it any better to add his name to the Everts GP winning dynasty, doing it on fathers day as Stefan and Harry looked on beaming with pride!
All the hard work has paid off, more history has been by an Everts, and this is a record that may never be broken – three generations of Grand Prix winners!
We caught up with 101 time GP winner, Stefan, to get his thoughts on how it felt to see his son winning a GP for the first time ever, after all the hard work put in collectively to get Liam to that point.
How did it feel to watch him win compared to winning yourself?
It’s a lot different, when you are watching you can’t do anything! I constantly think what all still can go wrong and that’s what makes it very stressful! I knew on Saturday that he might have a chance to win if he would take good starts and have the same vibe like Saturday.
Did you expect him to win so early into being a factory rider and to be able to deal with that pressure of the Everts name so successfully to become a third generation GP winnner? It’s a remarkable achievement.
After Sardinia we had a big meeting with the 3 generations (Stefan, Harry, Liam), made some big changes and from there we could immediately see some big changes. The first podium came unexpected but we could see on his training sessions (in the week) that it would not take very long before he would take his first win.
I have always seen the potential that Liam has, but for a long time he could not put the circle together. I believe that we haven’t seen all of him yet, he still has marching left in his riding, but needs to slowly learn to push to limits even further.
Is your dad the best coach ever?! From yourself and numerous other title level riders and now up to the current generation like the Lawrence brothers and Prado (Harry has worked with all three), all technically brilliant and all leading their series and Liam of course winning already, it’s a pretty awesome CV!
I would say that for me personally yes, he taught me the basics to become a multi-champion. Every career starts with 2 people, and that’s mam & dad! Kelly & myself realize now what efforts parents have to do to bring their kids to the top. My dads CV is impressive and has experience on and off the track.
“Mr. Stopwatch,” he has worked with a lot of riders and always gave his open & honest advice possible (and stories 😊) but every personality is different and with some riders it has helped a lot.

And an empathetic Stefan then added how his personal experience makes Liam’s achievement in the context of carrying the weight of the Everts name, even more impressive: “I realize more then anybody the pressure of the name, Everts, that Liam carries. There is simply no room for failing! He’s got some big guts (balls) to step into our shoes (boots 😊).”
